Courage & Confidence

Earlier last week I wrote about a pep talk I gave my little girls as we began the school year.  We summed it up with what we now affectionately call the 4 C’s.  They were so applicable to both children and adults that I decided to post about it.

The 1st C is Curiosity; touching upon that inquisitive and playful nature in life.  This week I’ll follow up with the next 2 C’s:

Courage & Confidence

I find that we often we need courage and confidence to go where our curiosities lead us.  Sometimes they lead us to places that can be uncomfortable, places that call for change or places that call us to reside in experience in a much more honest way.   And it is these circumstances that call us to find courage even in the face of fear, to find confidence when things are ambiguous and uncertain.  And when I say confidence, I don’t mean to be led by one’s ego, but to be comfortable with who it is you are and where it is you are going, even when it is vastly different from the norm.  Confidence is to have faith in this journey even in times of difficulty.   And this faith allows us to know that there is not only one path, but that there are a multitude of paths, all leading toward the same destination.  It allows our journeys to be inclusive and open, both to our own and to those of others.

Do you have the courage and confidence to go where you need to go in life?  I say you do.  I say we all do.  We just have to find it in our hearts.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where
he stands in moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he stands at
times of challenge and controversy.
